I want to check on refinancing my house. How can I find out if a mortgage company is legitmanate

This would be very hard over the web.
My first suggestion is to ask your current lender. They already are “on the hook” and may be able to re-fi it much cheaper and easier than other people.

There are currently so many home loan options available, that even those with poor credit are likely to find a lender who can assist them in realizing their dream of purchasing a home. However, those with poor credit are likely to be offered unfavorable loan terms such as high interest rates or variable interest rates instead of fixed rates. This is because the lender considers these homeowners to be higher risk than others because of their poor credit.
There are only few which I know legitimate in mortgage services. If you really want to know than I have only one idea go to their previous clients and ask them about their services. Any reputed mortgage company willing to tell their clients name because they want to spread their business…
Verify the company’s credentials and accreditation, if any. You can contact your local Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission or the attorney general’s office in your home state.
